Switching to biomass wood pellet heating from oil, bottled gas or electricity can lower your energy bills, attract government help and lower your carbon emissions.

Modern wood-fired biomass boilers are fully automated, clean, efficient and low maintenance.

They produce heat on demand and because they are over 90% efficient, they leave very little ash.

Wood pellet boilers can form an attractive room feature or can be located in a separate room, cellar or outhouse. In some cases they can be almost a 'straight swap' for an oil or LPG boiler, providing flue and other regulations allow.

There are many varieties of boiler available - at TaylorMade Solutions we will be pleased to advise on your choice of boiler from the many designs and output capacities available.

Goverment grants are available for switching to a wood pellet boiler.

Under the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) you can claim a cashback sum for installing a biomass boiler, plus you be eligible for regular payments that are due to be start in 2014.

The incentive scheme for renewable heat in domestic properties will be made available to homeowners, private and social landlords, third party owners of heating systems and people who build their own homes.

Payments will be based on the property's calculated energy requirement in kilwatt hours. Applicants for the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will need to have a Green Deal assessment which will determine the energy requirement and therefore the level of payments.

The boiler burns wood pellets. Pellets are readily available in all areas of the country and available either in bags for easy storage and handling or delivered loose in larger quantities for homes with larger storage facilities.

The pellets are fed from an internal hopper into a burner. The burner is fully automatic and can be controlled from the boiler's control panel or remote control or from a remote thermostat.

Air is introduced to the combustion chamber which means the pellets burn fiercely. Pellets boilers are generally over 90% efficient, meaning there is virtually no ash. The ash tray therefore only has to be emptied every few days.

Heat from the boiler can be used to power radiators and hot water. The boiler has an internal pump, expansion tank and pellet hopper making it completely self-contained. It does however need connection to a flue.
